The subway was built with stones dating back to the Gallo-Roman period (1st century) together with stones similar to those of the tomb of a 6th century Queen in the abbey of St Germain des Prés, which are told to be the ruins of the Chapel of St Germain aux orges. This chapel belonged to the Knights of the Temple of Solomon who were fought by the King Philippe le Bel and the Pope Clément the fifth.
